Zuiko 1.2Hi Bill,
My first OM2 , bought used in `98, came with a 55/1,2. I was very proud to
have that enormous lens, especially I had big hope for wide field astro
work. The trials were a even bigger disappointment. At 1,2, pics are totally
unusable due to severe coma and other aberations even starting to appear
close to the center. Stopping down to 2 improved the result, but it still
was far from the quality I got earlier with an old schneider xenon 50/1,9
wide open on my old exacta. I soon sold the lens and bought a much cheaper
50/1,4 (silvernose) and a 24/2,8 for slightly more than I got for the 1,2.
Especially the 24 is a fine performer on the sky , even wide open! I also
have two 1,8 lenses, but I have not done comparative testing ( Bad weather,
too much work...). I think a new 50/1,8 would be a good choice.

Does anyone know which of the 1.2 Zuikos were better than the other. I
have the opportunity to get either a 55mm 1.2 or the 50mm 1.2 (the 55 seems
to be in better shape). I plan on using it for astrophotography, so the 55
will likely be better as it has a larger light gathering surface. Any
insight (which one older, better coatings one one? etc....) Also, which one
may have better collectors value?
Thanks,
-Bill
