Hi,
All answers that were given were already very complete. In case someone
wants to read up a bit more about the usage of PNG vs GIF vs JPEG, here are
some good pointers:
http://www.wfu.edu/~matthews/misc/jpg_vs_gif/JpgVsGif.html
http://www.und.nodak.edu/webhelp/graphics/format.html
http://graphicdesign.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm
http://www.ping.be/amigaphil/PNG.html
http://error405.wotf.net/image.htm
There was also a better page, in which visually ALL three formats were
compared with excellent demonstration graphics, as well as hints on when to
use what type of image, but the above pages also get the message across.
Note that PNG may not be as much supported by browsers as the GIF and JPEG
formats, but I have found a reference that states one should be fine with IE
(Windows, Mac, Unix versions) which is the best browser anyway, and also
with Netscape.
Cheers!
Olafo
