This function works wonderfully in dim light, dark background situations. I
was referring more to conditions where you're trying to compose and meter a
very bright, daylight, sunny, Costa Rica type shot. The lcds don't seem to
have much 'omph' to them. (they aren't particularly dark).

Does pushing the "light up viewfinder" button help? (little round button at
the top right of the lens mount bit, gives a backlight for 10 seconds or
so).
