Hi again,
After consulting the repair manual found on the Olympus hardware resource page
(http://olympus.dementia.org/Hardware/) I dared to take off the base cover. No
problem.
I found that my OM-2 has a "K 5" stamped on the body frame. As it is a 584xxx
SN without MD label, it is quite shure that it has the original base cover. My
question is now: Do I have a rare piece here? Or has somebody preplaced the
leatherette? A comparision with my other OM's shows, however, that the skin is
the same. And it looks like it has been on the camera for the past 25 years.
I also brushed away some dust from inside the cover plate, but I could see that
the body is still clean and nice.
After this observation I think a part of the story of the OM-2 must be
rewritten. There WERE made OM-2's with the CW curtain pattern and no MD label,
and this went to the SN range of 584000.
Regards
Bernd
