When you take the bottom off, with the lens mount pointing away from you,
there is a "casting number" cast into the body casting at the right end.
Oldest OM-2s are stamped "K-A" with the K inside a circle. A true OM-2 in
the 580xxx range would be something like "K-5"

This information leaves me even more puzzled. I don't know the story of that
camera before I bought it three years ago. Are there any other distinct
things on the bottom plate I can use to find out?
