Marcus,

To each his own I suppose. The Shutter speed ring placement is one of the things
I love best about my OMs. When I purchased my first OM-1 in 1976 it was one of
the deciding factors. I find it a very intuitive placement, that makes much more
sense than the 'awkward' placement up top of most cameras. It is very easy to
change the shutter speed without removing your eye from the viewfinder,
something I found difficult with many other cameras. I also find that with the
two 'tabs' on it, it is easy to have a broad idea of what speed you are at.
I can see how, if you are coming from another system it would be difficult to
adjust to, but give it time and I think it will grow on you.
I don't find it a problem with the tripod collar myself, but then I take the
collar of my 300 if I am shooting handheld.
