I have had 2 Friwo chargers, one with a timer, and one without. Each could take
up to 6 D cells, or smaller, and the charging rate was adjustable. Both are now
dead, in each case because I attempted to charge a D cell that evidently had an
internal short. The transformer got hot and melted an internal fuse - no
electronic protection. Other than that, Friwo have an OK reputation and make
lots of chargers for many applications...
