What really count is the D-Max of a scanner, the bit depth is nothing if you
have a noise scanner. I have a 42 bit UMAX 1220s, the noise is very high for
slides and it cannot retrieve the shadow details very well, but it is
excellent for scanning photo or reflective media though.
