well, if my first body is an OM 1-n MD, what should the second be?

IMHO the OM-2S needs a backup of its own, just because of its erratic
battery life. I use an OM-2n as back-up for my OM-2S, since I feel
confident that the 2n will not let me down if I suddenly need to use
it.
I'd second that re the 2n. Picked one up a while ago for £70.00 on UK Yahoo
auctions including a 35-70 Sigma, assorted filters and a camera bag. (Just
call me Doris) <g> No battery drain to speak of, unless you forget to switch
it off.
Alternatively a 1 or another 1n could be the answer.
