Tom, you're right and this a feature is often overlooked by people who
consider the program mode of the 2S to be primitive. It's a convenient
way to bias the program to use faster speeds, say, for action shots or
in circumstances where the camera can't be held all that still, such as
shooting from a boat or from a moving vehicle. You have to keep an eye
on the shutter speed, though, especially in bright conditions and/or
with a fast film; however, the camera will 'beep' at you if the
required shutter speed would be faster than 1/1000 sec. That means you
need to select a smaller aperture, so that the required shutter speed
will be within the camera's working range. The 2S was quite well
thought out, IMHO . . . apart from the absence of an OFF switch, that
is!
