That was my assumption. I checked a generic lens by scraping the paint out,
revealing the plain black anodizing beneath. I haven't checked a Zuiko.
Probably varies since at least the later 50/1.8 lens used a plastic aperture
ring (if I'm recalling a recent post correctly).

I agree, Giles, but the original message suggested that one could use
a toothpick or something alike and scratch out the top layer (coloured
lettering) only...
Does anyone know if the Olympus aperture rings are anodized, rather
than painted black?
