OK, ok. I'll admit being wrong. I was under the 'impression' that the 1270
could dither the 6 colors better with more bits. Guess not.
Well, don't cave so easily, Tom. First off, will it even print a 48
bit TIFF? If so, it may be making some use of the extra information.
As I mentioned, none of my mid- to high-end printers will even accept
a 48 bit TIFF, but they're all Postscript printers, and I'm willing
to be convinced that a native Epson driver might do otherwise.

I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but I tend to disbelieve this.
The human eye can only resolve about 2,000 different colors, so
PRINTING more bits shouldn't result in any discernible difference.
The only reason I could imagine would be to reduce the "combing" I
mentioned in another message, but only if the printer was doing some
value range processing.
I've been researching and using high-end printers for three years,
and I haven't come across one that would even print a 48 bit TIFF. If
I send a 48 bit file to my 50" giclee printer or either of my color
