Several reasons I used the 85 so much. Avoiding the perspective distortion
of the wide angles was certainly one. I also like the very slight
telephoto "compression" characteristic of this lens (maybe it's just a
phase I'm going through). I also found that whilst there were probably a
lot of shots that I would have liked to have taken with the 21 or 28, there
was often some extraneous detail that ruined the composition which could
only be eliminated by a narrower angle of view & backing up a bit. At some
of the more popular places of interest, it was difficult not to get hordes
of tourists in the frame with the wide angle. Whilst the inclusion of
people (ie locals going about their normal business) can often enhance
scenics, I'm afraid most tourists don't enhance one's pictures.

Away from the towns, the 85 seemed to allow very nice landscape
compositions with good detail, whereas the wide angles seemed to overly
miniaturise to the to the extent that detail became insignificant. The 200
was useful in this regard also. This is also probably a result of the
viewpoint. Many shots were taken from vantage points along the roads. The
wide angles would have been great if I had the time to walk cross country
more.
