It's no better waiting for the wind to die down when the foreground
vegetation is swaying in the wind, or for a bird to do something
interesting while you're watching it through binoculars.

I'd rather have a separate button which prefires the mirror and
stops down. I believe the Pentax 67 and a recent Leica do this.
1/2 second is at once too short (vibration) and too long.

Well, I tried a couple of weeks ago when I suggested a mod. to make
the OM-4's and OM-2SP's mech 1/60 position really turn the camera off.
No-one bit. There must already be a microswitch in there to dim the
display, right?
