This for instance makes it difficult to focus on small and fast moving objects like an aircraft in the sky. I hope the next iS camera (hopefully released within a year) will show an improvement in this. Otherwise the AF system is quite adequate for all situations (at least that of the iS-3 / iS-3000; can't speak for the others).
