1.-*Generally*, in the U.S., a company may lose some of its rights to sue if
they never pursue copyright infringement. IOW, it would be difficult to
prevail in a suit if it can be shown that they haven't cared for the past 20
years. That's one reason companies like to have a reputation of pursuing
"violations".
#2.- Also- they can't just all of a sudden lay a lawsuit on Hans or anyone
else without first contacting that person and advising them of their
infringement and the company's intent to sue if the practice is not stopped.
#3.- If Hans is not profiting they surely don't care and are glad for the
attention and free advertising, and they may even be limited in their ability
to pursue a suit if there's no one profiting.
