Oh..my..god! Don't get me started on Krispy Kreme's. I grew up in
Atlanta, where the KK donuts were king. I remember Sunday mornings when my
Dad would go to the Krispy Kreme bakery on Ponce de Leon Ave in Atlanta and
pick up warm glazed donuts for us to eat for breakfast before church. Even
today I almost have to go get hot ones when I go home. It's a different
product than supermarket or Dunkin Donuts. Much lighter and sweeter, very
different. Not better or worse, just different.
I believe that they are based in Winston-Salem, NC. They have also been
introduced in NYC recently. And over the past 5-10 years, they developed a
mini bakery that graces many locations. Before that, the bakery operation
was the big expense and limited distribution, since it's a conveyor system
product. DD, with their in-store bakeries, had them beat in the race to
canvas the country. But I came across a store in Wilmington, DE on 202
that has a conveyor-line bakery right in the little store! When I used to
go to a client not 1 mile from this store, I ALWAYAS stopped for 2 glazed
and a cup of coffee.
John, Go find a store in NYC and try one.

Not to change the subject (dough!) but I have never tried a Crispy Creme
donut. Do I have the name correct? We don't have them on Long Island
(yet). There's been a lot of talk about these since the company recently
went public. Sorry about the OT
