I've had similar problems with 4Ts in Yosemite using the self timer.
But the self timer is a big part of the problem. A lot of juice is used
up by that flashing LED and the beeper. Use of a cable release is a
battery saver under these conditions.
Moisture? Haven't noticed a problem.
