I haven't gone inside my camera yet, and may not, but in other hobbies (ham
radio) have encountered similar
sardine can hardware situations and been quite successful.
To some extent many people would be ill advised to change focussing screens
because they are
klutzes--but while a delicate operation, it's approved.
Sure--there will be people who do not know their limitations and will wreck
their gear but others can
probably make simple repairs and save a bundle of money, gaining satisfaction
with their growing competence.
The complicated stuff should probably be left to the pros if one's gear is
valuable but to insist that a photographer
be an appliance user only not an experimenter or repairer puts limits on what
is a hobby for many, IMO.
The problem is that detailed schematics and mechanical diagrams appear to be
routinely NOT provided in
this hobby, unlike ham radio....
My bottom line is perhaps that if we paid for the camera we may dunk it in the
ocean, take snapshots with it,
modify and improve it, use it as a hammer, or create art.
Can you share with us what's involved in tightening the 2S (or 4?) hot shoe and
leave it up to us?
Thanks!
Jeffrey
