The most eye-opening thing in NG for me in recent times is that the amazing
"North Woods Journal" of a year or two ago was shot on Fuji colour neg
stock - somewhere I have an interview with the photographer where he talks
about the series, and that snippet jumped out at me, I have to say.
Cheers
Andy

Most of the finest colors you see in NG are straight slide film.
Using the pro emulsions makes a difference, as do expert exposures
and knowledge of light and color. Most of what you see is straight
Velvia, Kodachrome 25, 64 & 200. For some articles, they have used
print film. The one that comes to mind is about a man who followed
Shackleton's route (in a boat of similar size).
For that, they used the then-new ISO 1,000 Kodak (was it VR ?),
and the grain worked well with the subject matter. The color was
great, too.
