" Well, art or not, competition is still fun. I also write poetry, and one
" of the most popular events in poetry chat rooms and in real life is a "Slam",
" a head to head competition between two poets. It is fun, everyone gets to
" hear the very best work of the two poets, and it inspires us to work harder
" to produce better work. I just don't see any harm in judging photos. It has
" been done for many, many years.

I guess I misrepresented myself to some extent here. It isn't that I
don't like the idea of critical analysis...it's the voting that seems a bit,
um, crass. My brother-in-law gives me some great "judging" and critical
analysis on some of my photos...and I love that, but if he were to just
vote on a collection of photos, I feel it would be much less constructive.
Anyway, I also think the idea of making it more friendly than a "contest"
would be more likely to draw participants. I am more likely to submit
my photos to a "collection" than to a "voting contest." And I'm a pretty
darn competitive person.
Peace,
