Hello Giles and all,
I also think, that there is a little influence on the "bokeh" by the number
of aperture blades, but the correlation maybe has more to do with
marketing. If a manufacturer wants to point out, that its newest lens has a
good bokeh, they supply the lens with a high number of blades. So the
number of blades is a little bit like a sales gimmick. In the meantime, you
can buy short tele macro lenses with eleven blades (the new Tamron macro).
On the other hand there are very good and very expensive large format
lenses with only five blades.
