In a sense 4x5 is the "small format" of LF.
To extend the concept:
35mm has two formats: small (Pen-F, cine) and large (so-called leica)
6cm roll-film has a small (4.5x6), medium (6x6) and large (6x7, 6x9) format
and sheet-film is available in several formats, most common are from 4x5 to
8x10.
