You answered the question. Exactly 3 volts. Alkalines do no put out exactly
3 volts, but rather start high and finish low. To easily get 3 volts, go
higher and design your own regulator (start at 4.5 volts from the battery)
or buy a three treminal regulator (probably have to start at 6 volts).
