Hi all:
I seem to recall that Olympus had to license the patent to one of the
autofocus methods then developed. I would suppose that it ate up profit and
they concluded that they couldn't make money competing with the likes of
Minolta (the technology I recall they licensed), Nikon, Canon, and others.
Seems like it was a wise business move to me, although it slowed to a crawl OM
System development, which we have come to lament.
They found their niche in point and shoot and ZLR's and a highly profitable
one at that. Some of the OM designers were promised they would get a crack at
developing some top quality items: hence the 90 mm f/2.0 Macro and the 35-80
f/2.8 zoom. I wonder what will be next?????
