As I have mentioned before, the OM2000 has a shutter release lock, which
can be unlocked by pulling the film-advance lever forward about 1/3 of the
way it moves or by using a cable release.
This evening I finally finished my job of making a small cable release from
the end piece of a regular cable release and a furniture tack, which are
joined by a spring. The furniture tack is about half an inch (1.25 cm) in
height. Because of its flat head of about 1cm in diameter, it works well
as a shutter release button.
The idea of utilizing a regular cable release came from Carl Turner, I
think. It was not clear from his post how the button portion will be made,
so I used my furniture tack (basically a nail with a round flat head).
For those of you who consider purchasing an OM2000, but is bothered by the
shutter release lock mechanism, this is a way around it. I hope that
Olympus will include this kind of device or will remove this feature in the
future. Although I did not buy any material to make this piece, I ended up
buying a couple of tools to make it.
