Greetings, There are 6 Olympus Pen digital cameras in my house, a mixture of E-Ps - E-PLs , 4 are my own & the
remaining 2 owned by my Wife & Daughter.
I've had E-PL 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 and E-PM 1 and 2. The E-PM2 was far my favorite, for several reasons. The only one still
here is the E-PL7. (My truth is that the GM5, with its small, but usable, EVF is the better small camera, but the lack
of IBIS on a tiny, light camera limits lens choices.)
The borrowing of my lenses is a regular occurrence & as we know the standard 14-42 kit lens is not the most sturdy
item & a number of these haven’t lasted the pace which is the reason for the regular borrowing episodes.
The spreadsheet says I had one of these. I sure don't remember it. I have the 14-42 EZ pancake lens with auto opening
lens cap on the E-PL7. Nice combo; push the on button and be ready to shoot immediately. Lens is reasonably well made, too.
I decided to indulge myself with a new lens the YONGNUO YN17mm F1.7 Auto Focus, my plan was put this on the 'NO
BORROW' list but there's a spanner in my plan.
The recessed hole in the lens mount seems to be either too shallow or too narrow & doesn’t allow the spring pin in the
camera mount to fully protrude & activate the sensor which results in a black LCD screen.
I never knew/noticed that behavior, but yes, that's how it works.
This only happens with 3 of the Pens whilst 3 work fine.
It's a physical defect in the lens mount but the seller & manufacturer & referring me to a comparability list which
only lists the newer Olympus & Panasonic cameras, this is BS
YesBut — it's a new little company, and the lens is waaay cheaper than an Oly or Panny. I can't imagine they have a
whole menagerie of old Oly E-Pxx bodies to measure and test. You want caviar on a beans budget? 🙂
of course because the M4/3 standard is a universal design or is supposed to be.
My question to the group is can this spring pin on the camera mount be disabled in the menu?
I'm sure not. As above, I've had and used many small Olys, in addition to the big ones, spent too much time in the
menus, and I recall nothing like that.
I have the tools & expertise to remedy the lens myself but that would be the
last resort.
Cancun? Seriously, it should be only a tiny application of a small tool.
