This is fun! Remember when we swapped PL 12-60 and Oly 12-100 back and forth in Bhutan. I just could not get comfy with the Oly. The PL is on one body at the moment, with the 12-200 in the "shop". (Just got the bill, $218, less than the $233 on the web site; pay before work gets done.)

When it comes to the big boys, percent deltas in one dimension doesn't tell the
story.  Back of the envelope calc shows a difference of 29% in volume

Oh yeah, it is indeed bigger, a poorer fit in the bag, but when wearing it, I
think the weight's the big thing.

and the integrated hood in smaller in the PL.

Yup, I did miss that slithering hood at first. I seem to have adjusted to the larger one. As Panny also provided a deeper, bayonet-on hood (which I never used), the Oly one is probably a bit better, optically.

The panny 1.4 TC is only listed for a 200 mm prime now but can be obtained,
but not sure how it performs.

Not a clue. 😉

I see you often have the Oly 1.4 TC glued on the back of the MZ 100-400.

It's a great match. The 12-200 is optically best up to about 140 mm, where the big guy with TC takes over. With both hanging on me, it's seamless from 12-560 (24-1130 eq.). More casually, the 12-200 alone gives me much of the reach I crave and AI sharpening makes it more better.

The rumor mill is providing very strong signals that the MZ 100-400 will be
updated with sync IS when the new cam and lenses are announced, BTW.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Perhaps the continuing sale price of Mk1 is an effort to clear out stock. At first, I was concerned about OIS only, but it's working well. In Topaz Sharpen AI, it's very seldom that motion blur models work best. And yet, compulsive as I tend to be about my best gear, I wouldn't be surprised if one ends up here. 🙂

[BTW, the switches on the Oly are better designed than those on the PL. I had to tape the PL ones after inadvertent changes from going in and out of the bag messed things up. The Oly has never done that. Also, a lock to avoid zoom creep, but as yet, I've not needed it.]
