I would agree to the overrated bit, but logic is a way for some of us
to attempt to stay grounded. It's not working for me though.

I get it. I'm still packing and there is a gaping hole in my bag for
the 200-600. Especially considering that I'm going to AUSTRALIA!!!!!
But with my near-complete state of exhaustion, I look at it, pick it
up, set it in the bag, and then take it back out. I'm pretty sure that
if I don't take it, I'm going to really regret it. If I do take it, I
won't use it. In a few days, I'll start to refresh and then kick
myself, but as I'm packing right now? Ugh. I'm going through a "toss
it out" stage right now like I'm going backpacking.
It's Thursday night and I've not even taken the DJ stand and cable bag
out of the car from last weekend. I am seriously seriously worn out.

My current SONY kit is the A7ii that I bought a few years
ago.......... This summer, I picked up a used 24/2.8 (lovely
lens!!!!), 70-200/2.8 GM(1), and an A9. For Christmas, I got the
20-70/4, and now the 70-200/4 for my birthday. I'm taking only the A9
with the two F4 lenses. KISS. My backup camera is my cellphone. Of
course. If anything happens, and my A9 dies, I'll just pick up
something there in Sidney or Melbourne. No biggy. The A7ii will stay
home. Just going to take the one body and two lenses. They are chunky,
though. My tiny camera bag will hold all of it if I REALLY stuff them
in.
I am taking one of my Macbook Pros and my iPad. Not just for Lightroom
purposes, but my full Ableton music production system is on the laptop
and I can spend some time producing some music. I do have my USB
memory stick and earphones with me just in case I get invited to DJ
someplace. I really shouldn't even think about that, but I would hate
to turn down an opportunity and memory sticks are tiny.

I've been vowing to never get a nose stud, but my daughters have me
almost convinced.
This pretending to be 20-something is insanely hard work. I have no
idea how Galen Rowell did it when he was my age. I wonder if when he
was out of everybody's sight he melted into a puddle of
Ibuprofen-infused flesh. I'm able to keep up appearances and be
extremely intense and energetic for a few hours but when I crawl into
my car I have to somehow coax it into motion to make the 20 mile drive
home in the middle of the night. (anywhere from 1AM to 7AM, depending
on if it's a bar, club, or rave). My Fridays begin at 7 am, and work
till 5 pm (or later), load in around 8pm, hit the decks at 9pm, finish
1am, once a month follow that up by hitting the decks at a rave at 3am
and go to 6am. Crawl into bed at 7am, sleep till noon, take care of
some stuff and be back at it again by 8pm till the wee hours of the
morning. For the past several months, I followed that up with a sound
system rental at 6am-noon on Sunday, and another DJ or mixing gig
Sunday evening. Then back to work Monday morning.
Yeah, lugging the 200-600 around just isn't striking my fancy right now.
