Great gallery. One note of caution--this in part in an analog list so mention
of the 70's is not correct in regards to the reel to reels.
You use film too, so should know better. ;-) The Akai 4000 DS was new
about 1979-1984 so including the 80's and my 4000 DB with Dolby NR is a tad
better. This Tandbergs are wonderful and apply the bias "cross field"
resulting in higher SN ratio. They claimed 7.5 in/sec performance at 3 3/4.
They sound as nice as Revox but are said to be finicky mechanically and
electronically. I wish I had one but he glass heads in the Akai are very
robust. The belts required replacing and all the contacts cleaned. I had the
Bias adjusted for LPR 35 tapes. Nothing like watching metal reels turn
while listening.
Sometimes analog, Mike
