On our recent trip we visited Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro. Still
working on Croatian photos, but you can see those for Slovenia and
Montenegro (a day trip only) below. A goodly number of castles, even
more churches with some architecture and other things thrown in. We
didn't feel horribly inundated with tourist groups, except perhaps in
Split and Dubrovnik.

A little while ago there was a discussion of e-sims for Europe. In the
end we went with O2 as they offered a combined phone and data plan for
the EU and select other countries. It was reasonably priced and, in
general, we were pretty satisfied and their support people responded
promptly. Being from North America, I had forgotten how to make
long-distance calls from a UK number. Operator error.....
The other issue was that we managed to brick the e-sim twice. The first
time, when we visited Montenegro, we didn't realize that we had to
switch off the e-sim when leaving the EU; it wasn't sufficient to simply
not use the phone (which works back home). So, no more e-sim. The second
time we were travelling from Dubrovnik to Split, taking the new bridge
entirely within Croatia. We got to Split to find no data or phone. Seems
that the e-sim connected to a tower in Bosnia along the way, with the
same result. After a long discussion with O2 support, the e-sim was
renewed both times. It worked out in the end, but in future we will be
more careful if we're close to the borders of the EU.
Best,
Martin
