Seems the rumor mill was 92% correct but despite the patent, no astro tracking

Firmware upgrade? Looks like the hardware is capable. I fondly remember the
major capability upgrades of the E-M5 II.

No GPS either, but don't care very much about that.
I've had a few cameras with GPS. None were worth anything. The latest TG-x series may be an exception. With GPS, half
a**ed is no better than none.
Curiously the Hand Held High res cuts the number of shots to 8 from 16 in the
E-M1 MKIII and with the faster processor takes 7 sec vs 16.
A different sensel layout may reduce the number needed for the same results? Most "hands on" reviews so far are really
first looks. And those that are real reflect the particular interests of the reviewers. The only report of actual use of
HHHR I've run across is from Digital Camera World:
"If you've used the handheld High Res Shot mode on the E-M1 Mark III or E-M1X, you'll know that the tech is great when
it works – but it doesn't always work. And at 12 or so seconds between shots, it's not ideal for anything more than
leisurely shooting. Thankfully, the stacked sensor and new processor mean that the mode is radically improved on the
OM-1; not only is the computation faster, but the stabilization works so well that we didn't have a single failed shot.
Shooting 50MP handheld shots is now a genuine option."
This one of the the most interesting improvements for me.
Assuming (a BIG assumption) that the new sensor
has 2 stops less noise, the HHHR mode would be 1 stop cleaner. Someone should
test that.
No comments on that, but the above holds out hope.
Also other weird stuff like the flash sync speed
What is this "flash" of which you speak?
is 1/50th if using non system flash in focus bracketing--not sure what it is
with Oly flash--pertinent for stacking critters with flash. The shortest delay
between flashes was about 1 sec in focus bracketing mode on the MkIII but can
be 0 sec on the new guy.
It is almost the same size (W,H,D) OM-1 135 X 92 X 73 vs 134 X 90.9 X
68
That's a plus. I'm not wild about the size of my E-M1 II, but am living with it. If the madness of the E-M1x is over,
that's good. 😁
Not quite WOW, more like WO, Mike
PS. Still if truly two stops less noise and has Yak eye, AF might be worth a
trade.
Faster frame rate with AF, also for Pro Cap Mode, is good. I've had cases where it looks like the best shot was between
frames. One reviewer had much better experience with flying bird tracking, too, which is good.
ON/Off switch is still in the wrong place, though.
Semi Wowed Moose
PS: Looks like Panny's offering will be in the GH series; where's my GX10?
