Unless you have a serious need for portability, I would not mess with
speedlights for a "serious" off-camera flash system. Pretty soon, you'll be
nickel-and-dimed into the price range of real studio lights.
There are great bargains in pack-and-head systems out there. If you shop
carefully, you can get a 800-joule pack, a couple heads, two tripods and
umbrellas, all for less than the price of a couple Chinese speedlights that
will struggle to supply 1/4th the power.
I know there are fans of cheap Chinese speedlights out there. But this is my
opinion, and I'm stickin' to it. :-)
