I've been embarked on a quest to improve my off-camera flash equipment,
only to encounter one obstacle after another. Basically, I desire to have a
low power flash to use for fill, and there are very few affordable options out
there. An FP-36 or FP-50 would suffice, but then there's the matter of
mounting it to something. And then there's the off-camera cables. One
(FL-CB02) plugs into a socket on the FP-1 grip (expensive and almost
unavailable), and the other (FL-CB05) has a shoe and a 1/4-20 threaded hole.
I can make the threaded hole work if I could find an adapter that would
slide into the shoe on my #2 Power Grip. I spent hours looking for one, and
when fully frustrated I drove down to Tempe Camera. I told the counter guy
what I was in need of, and he took me to a display that had exactly what I
wanted for just $10. So now I have the essential part for making use of an
FP-36 flash.
But, will this be any better than what I'm using now? With the #2 Power
Grip I can use a 310, T20, or T32 flash and take advantage of the extra battery
power available. The T-32 has ND filters that will let me knock down the
intensity to GN11, plus I can tilt the head up for bounce.
ARRRGH!
