Through my life I've had some really high end health insurance but by far the
best is Medicare. Simple, painless, and not hugely expensive. The part that
really makes me mad is all the conservative politicians that are pitching
single payer but with private insurance option. To me that will be stupidly
expensive and is just a smoke screen. If you were to totally dispose of private
insurance and redirect the money that goes into it into single payer, there
would be a great step up.
But I'm not an insurance company executive. When evaluating things in American
government, always remember, follow the money. Private insurance companies give
big money to campaign funds. Taking away old overweight white guys from the
Trump International Golf Club will prove nearly impossible.

Subject: [OM] OT: Medicare Enrollment Season
There are a number of reasons to envy those who live in countries with a
single-payer health care system, such as Canada, Britain, France... One of
those reasons is a lack of enrollment ads.
I tried watching a fairly interesting scifi movie (Alien Hunters), only to
watch five minutes or so of the movie and then five minutes of mostly Medicare
enrollment ads. I ended up going to evilBay and buying a DVD of the movie as my
mental health is worth something.
Early this month I tried getting information about a dental care supplement for
my medicare. After waiting more than two weeks for it to arrive, I hacked their
website and found it myself. It was stored as a file with a name that wasn't at
all similar to the document name, with a link that was equally unrelated. In
such a highly competitive market you would think they would be shoving it down
your throat instead of concealing it. It did, however, prove to be worth the
effort as it was a comprehensive plan at a surprisingly low cost.
It might be that their website was written by a grade school computer club.
