Hi Moose,
Thanks for taking time to look and comment. I do pretty well with
managing the variables of the E-M1 menu and settings IF I stay with one
type of lens, such as auto focus. I have trouble when I try to recall
how switch to using a manual focus, without reviewing the "book" . I
think, IIRC, that much of their comments about manual focusing aids
really refer to manual focusing of AF lenses.
I have one of the close-up lenses you recommended, in a diameter to fit
some of my manual lenses, and it works nicely. I'm not quite ready to
add that complication to my zoom lenses.

I'm still trying to get more comfortable with the ZD 50-200 lens, so
I went back to the bee with this longer lens. Though I can focus
closer with the ZD 14-54, the extra reach of the longer lens gives
much better detail.

I'll master it yet!
Looks to me as though you are pretty darn close, already! :-)
As to closer focus, I use achromatic (two element) close-up lenses for
that. Although they may be used on any lens, my main use is on my
primary zooms. This can work very well. I have hundreds of excellent
results, but many of the lenses are hard to find and specific combos
may or may not work well.
The other choice is auto extension tubes. Here are some examples
generally relevant to your lens.

I use cheap ones, and there are a lot of contacts, so stacking two is
inviting the need to wipe the contacts. They also don't have perfect
mounts, so you would need to hold using the lens itself or the tripod
foot, to take weight off the mounts.
