You are absolutely correct, except for the extremely rare exception. The mid-series 100/2.8 is arguably better than the last ones. The 35/2 is another that has a different character across the series. The 85/2 is another lens that has tremendous variation in design that influences things beyond pure specifications. But as a general rule, you are correct. That said, my favorite OM Zuikos have slid around a bit. The silvernosed (mid-series) 35/2 is by far my favorite art lens. The 28/2 is my favorite landscape lens. The 100/2 is better on the 6D than the 100/2.8 due to purple-fringing, but otherwise, the 100/2.8 is still better on everything else. The 24/2.8 has sat idle now that the 21/3.5 an 28/2 are in the fold. Absent those two lenses, an my 24/2.8 remains a favorite. On the long end, the 300/4.5 is still bonkers good.
