It's great when you find a new author you like with a good back
catalogue. I have read all the Michael Connelly books, but now I have
to wait a year for a new one after I finish each one.
Earlier this year I discovered Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther novels. I
finished the last one (of fourteen) yesterday. Unfortunately, the
author died last year, so that's the lot. They follow a Berlin
detective before, during and after the second world war. However,
they go backwards and forwards in time - the last book is set in 1928
so chronologically the earliest. Several books cover two distinct
time periods, with events in the earlier period influencing the
later. Many real-life characters are included and you may learn a lot
of 20th Century history. It's best to read them in the order they
were written to avoid spoilers. The first three novels are available
in a single volume.

Wow! 20 books in the series. I love it when I can continue with one book
after another with the same characters. Looking forward to this one!
