It was the lens hood for the 18/3.5.
I never actually used it as a filter adapter, but because it flared like a
trumpet bell, rather than radiated straight out (like the evilBay Chinese
adapters), it doubled as a lens hood. Or singled as one, in my case.
In Maitani’s genius, the OM System used only three filter sizes, so you didn’t
have to have a whole collection of odd-sized filters to ensure coverage of your
lenses. This was crazy important if you were a cyclist or backpacker or rock
climber!
