Hi Chris,
That's the airplane that brought Harry Truman to Tullahoma on June 25,
1951, to dedicate the Arnold Engineering Development Center in honor of
Gen. Hap Arnold. I was released by the USAF two years later and began a
39 year career at the Center.

The DC-6 (C-118) that he and Truman had used earlier was almost cut up
for scrap. Out of curiosity a technician at Davis-Monthan AFB just happened to
look up the serial number of it just before it was to be cut up and luckily
saved it. It has since been restored and is on display at the Pima Air Museum.

Again, from the distant past, the Presidential Fleet was photographed at
Andrews AFB in 1964, including President Eisenhower's Constellation
named "The Columbine", in middle background. This one required a lot of
"speck removal".
