airport side of the bridges which would be subject to collapse in the
event of an earthquake? If not all those airplanes would be looking for
passengers who were stuck on the wrong side of the bridge damage :-)

It certainly was a needed wake-up call as a decent-sized earthquake
will certainly cause a similar constraint on this highway. Loss of any
one bridge over the rivers will be bad news. So, a lot of companies
are figuring out how to handle operational logistics as well as the
isolation of up to half their workforce. It turns out that Anchorage
has one HUGE advantage. We've got thousands of airplanes and a very
significant airport infrastructure.
