My first two years of undergraduate school were at a remote campus, where
I took on a volunteer job as a sysop for the remote computer terminal. We were
connected to the IBM 360 at the main campus by way of a telephone modem that
had a handset in a cradle. Whenever there was a strong winter storm we had
trouble getting a good connection.
