While we are discussing early experiences with computers, has anyone
else memories of using a GEIS computer online about 1967?
My recollection is of using a teleprinter in a small room in the UK and
linking to a computer somewhere in the USA, presumably within General
Electric. One could write simple programs in an early BASIC and it was
a great improvement on a slide rule or the available desk calculators,
and did not require those of us doing R&D to access the main IT
department of the organisation for time on their mainframe.
