on my first trip to Italy, the plane landed at the Rome Airport, and in the
terminal, we saw lots of police as this was after the red Brigade ugliness.
Among the passengers on the floor were police in pairs with Uzis and dogs,
and on a catwalk at a higher level were more police keeping watch. They were
not over reacting and I was initially a bit weirded out but after just a
minute, I realized that they weren't going to be spraying the crowd with
bullets and neither was anyone else, as it was reassuring.

oops dam smell chucker, and I am sure you are right Bob, most officers
do a fantastic job, I also agree though that better training would
probably help with most of the others.

You have strain stations in Switzerland, too?

PS: Our police are by no means as aggressive as they appear to be,
especially as they are portrayed on social media. It also should be noted
that our law enforcement structure is set up to provide local control
rather than state or national. This means the cops in, say, my town can be
far different critters than those in the next town over.
That said, I'd like to have more of them, especially on traffic control,
and I'd like them to be _much_ better trained.

Living in Switzerland I am used to seeing armed military (and their tanks
etc..) especially at the strain stations on a Sunday, I have much the
same sentiment as the other Europeans here, however that would probably
change quickly change if they became as gung-ho as the police in America
appear to be.
