Have you considered Colorado Springs? Short drive top the Denver airport,
reasonably urban, and weird in some ways, although I suspect some of the
weirdness may have difficulties with you wife. Oh, and it's not always warm
and sunny.

Other than Florida or Texas, we're not likely to go south either. We
have to keep in mind professional considerations for my wife too. It's
a significant issue in many places. And then there is me... That's a
whole can-o-worms right there that wipes out 2/3 of the country.
New Mexico would be great, but there is the issue with flights. Being
close to a airline hub (Denver, Atlanta, Baltimore, Phoenix, Houston,
Dallas, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, LA, etc), would be healthier
from a travel perspective, as well as continued opportunities.
