Well not necessarily. If Trump's indiscretions lead the airlines to ban
all manner of electronic devices, whether in checked or carry on
baggage, a film camera might be a wise investment. An environment as
turbulent as Syria might not offer even a modicum of reliable electric
power even if a chargeable camera was contemplated. As for taking a
"few" rolls of film, 6000/36 = 167 rolls which would be a lot for me but
could be a "few" for a serious pro shooter on a National-Geographic-like
assignment.

Tongue-in-cheek no doubt John, but please re-consider what constitutes "a
few rolls of film" for Tina, who mentioned a few weeks ago that she had 6000
images in her current work-in-progress! Not even a Deutsche Bundespost
half-frame special would make much impression on that.

A Leica M6, a 35mm and a 50mm lens and a few rolls of film will avoid
all your worries about power storage other than having a spare battery
or two for the TTL meter. Worked for me when I strolled round Damascus
in late June 1971. My 35mm / f1.4 captured some lovely shots outside and
inside the Umayyad Mosque :-)

This is why I will need power storage:

The solar chargers I bought are not very practical because it takes 35
hours of sunlight to fill the power bank. :-( I'm sure most solar
options are about the same. I just hope I have enough fully charged
batteries when I leave Beirut.

A backpack like that could be an open invitation to an assault or a
