An impressive piece of unintentional static art, and seeing your wife in front of it really gives a sense of scale

But I fail to see the point of comparing it to a grain silo. There are plenty of man made objects for different purposes
that are much taller (and much shorter) than this wind non-turbine, so what's the point?
I believe the height of grain silos is constrained by the nature of what they store and how is is handled. Too tall, and
the grain at the bottom is crushed. Too tall and the pressure at the bottom would require heavier wall structures.Too
tall and the pressure at the bottom, where they let their contents out, is hard to handle. Observing them in Calif.,
height seems to remain the same for any particular area/crop. In rice country, for example, the newer ones are often
larger in diameter, but the same height as the smaller ones. I do see occasional shorter ones in a group, and speculate
that may be to accommodate a lower volume or more delicate variety of grain.
In any case, no one is competing to build the tallest silo. They aren't as
stupid as the engineers of that wind thingie.
