The current Acela trains also have the tilting feature - no need to upgrade any
tracks on the Northeast Corridor. The problem is that the tracks are too close
together - initial testing on the Acela showed that at maximum tilt, the trains
on adjacent tracks would sideswipe each other. As a result, the tilting angle
was restricted.

They've added tilting so that the speed can be increased without building
dedicated high-speed track corridors such as the French LGV, though the present
trackage will need to up upgraded to handle the higher side loading as was done
in France for the non-LGV trackage.
