As a comparison in Switzerland our house pays around 24K in health
insurance (2 adults + 4boys) - I am not sure but I think we have 1500
excess each (deductable ?) . the costs continue to rise significantly
each year. Like everywhere else though the system is abused, by doctors
(who should never be allowed to sell drugs), private ambulance firms who
use the blue light and neck brace even when not necessary (source -
anecdotal evidence from doctors who work in the Emergency department)
and of course drugs companies.
It also creates a culture where the medical profession has less
incentive to fully cure patients treating the symptoms and not the
cause, hence there has been a growth in recent years in complimentary
medicine.
Saying that I cannot fault the service and treatment we as a family have
personally received, e.g the equivalent of a GP has the capabilty to do
Xrays, blood testing etc.. so unlike the UK there is no extra trip to
the hospital or over prescribed antoibiotics except for more specialist
treatments.
From time to time I have an internal debate regarding Cai who was a
million dollar baby which I will never fully pay back, but the
conclusion I made was that we don't know what any child will cost in the
future and more importantly what they may provide in a way of improving
humanity

That sucks. But it isn't the fault of the ACA.
Does the employer paid portion for health and welfare include things other
than just health insurance?
