Most likely the edges of the battery cap are chipped off, making it
difficult to turn. Body is 300,000 serial number (?). on the edge of
being "unreliable" imo.

In the process I
discovered how difficult it is to remove visible dust from black surfaces
... you think it is all gone, then look at the photos :-(
I
also discovered that the paint on the surface of the battery cover is
somewhat scuffed ... :-( do you think it is so marred that I should take the
whole lot back?
It hasn't seen a whole lot of use. I might need to buy some film if the
answer to my question above is NO.
I also have
another film find in the pipeline - more about that in a week or two.
